Isaac Shapiro read passages from his memoir, " Edokko: Growing Up a Stateless Foreigner in Wartime Japan." Mr. Shapiro talked about his family's flight from persecution against Jews in both communist Russia and then Germany before they settled in Japan, where Mr. Shapiro came of age during World War II. In the post-war era at age 14, he became an interpreter for the U.S. military and then later immigrated to the United States. The Strand Book Store in New York City hosted this event.
